メディアは、未だに全世界で感染拡大が続いていると誤って報道し、特にインドの感染拡大が深刻としていますが、実際にはインドでの新規感染者の増加はピークを過ぎ、インドを除く全世界の新規感染者数は着実に減少がが続いており、世界的には一旦は抑制方向へと進んでいると言えます。
しかし、全世界でのワクチン接種率は高くなく、地域や国によっては、感染拡大が続き、人口あたりの感染者数が他国に例が無いほどに高く、早急に国際的な医療支援等が求められる地域があります。地域全体で感染が拡大しているところは南米で、特に ウルグアイやアルゼンチン、ブラジルなどです。そして急激な感染拡大で人口あたりの感染者数が高い国は、インド洋の モルディブやセーシェルの諸島国と、西アジア（中東）のバーレーンなどです。それらの国々の人口は多くありませんが、人口あたりの感染者数を見れば、その国の人々は感染リスクが高い上に医療機関が既に負っている負担レベルも高い事が充分に推察されます。
感染による被害レベルをより正確に把握する為には、新規感染者数だけで感染状況を把握するだけでなく、人口あたりの新規感染者数を 国別・日別でまとめた、別表【感染密度】一覧表で、注意や支援が必要な国を正しく把握する事が大切です。
