認定NPO法人フードバンク関西 / NPO Food Bank Kansai

5月3日付け発行の神戸新聞で、『認定NPO法人フードバンク関西』が神戸新聞が主宰する “社会賞” をした事が報じられていました。同紙が優れた業績を残した個人や団体などを選定して表彰しているものですが、僕から見て、「フードバンク関西」が受傷するのは当然の事ですし、むしろ選定が遅過ぎると言える程に活躍をしている団体です。
この「フードバンク関西」は、2003年4月、兵庫県芦屋市に在住していた米国人 Bryan Lawrence 氏が、尼崎市に開店したコストコホールセールジャパン尼崎からの余剰食品の無償提供を受け、それを大阪市内のホームレス支援に活用した事をきっかけに誕生した法人です。その後の活動は、子供食堂の支援なども加わり、この社会に無くてなならない存在です。※ 詳しくは、GRA公式Webサイト”NPO法人紹介「認定NPO法人フードバンク関西」” をご覧下さい。

The Kobe Shimbun published on May 3rd introduced ``Certified NPO Food Bank Kansai,'' which the paper recognized as an organization with outstanding achievements and awarded it with the ``Social Award.'' However, for me, it is natural for Food Bank Kansai to be affected, and it is an organization that is so active that it is too late to select it.
Food Bank Kansai was established in April 2003 by Mr. Bryan Lawrence, an American living in Ashiya City, Hyogo Prefecture, who received free surplus food from Costco Wholesale Japan Amagasaki, which opened in Amagasaki City. This is a corporation that was created after the project was utilized to support homeless people in Osaka City. このフードバンクという活動は、例えば、現在、イスラエルの封鎖によって飢餓的状況に陥っているパレスチナ・ガザ地区の人々へ、米国の World Central Kitchen を始めとする、世界の数多くの団体・組織が食料品支援を行なっている活動と同じです。困窮する人々への必要な援助が、政治的な思惑や金銭的得失によって必要な援助が出来ない各国政府や企業ではなく、NPOやNGOなど、営利を目的としない民間の団体によって支えられている事をより多くの人は認識すべきです。
その観点からも、日本に初めて “フードバンク” という構想を根付かせ、20年以上に亘り数多くの他のNPO法人の活動を支え続けている同団体こそ、真っ先に “社会賞” を受賞すべきだったと思っています。

This food bank activity is similar to the activities of World Central Kitchen in the U.S. and many other organizations around the world that are providing food aid to the people of the Gaza Strip in Palestine, who are currently suffering from starvation due to the Israeli blockade. The World Central Kitchen is one of many such organizations around the world that provide food aid to people in need. More and more people should be aware that the necessary aid for people in need is not provided by governments or corporations that are unable to provide necessary assistance due to political considerations or financial gain or loss, but by private, not-for-profit organizations such as NPOs and NGOs.
From this point of view, the organization that first established the concept of "food banks" in Japan and has been supporting the activities of many other NPOs for more than 20 years should have been the first to receive the "Social Award". I believe that this organization should have been the first to receive the "Social Award".
