路面清掃報告「草の根」/ Road Cleaning Report: "Grassroots"

6月4日、赤穂市の交通公園の路面清掃作業は、路面が最も傷んでいる「ロータリーエリア」の清掃8日目で、今回は “草の根” による破壊の進行がよく理解できるエリアでした。
On June 4th, the road cleaning work at Ako City's traffic park continued for the eighth day, focusing on the "rotary area," where the road surface is most damaged. This time, the area clearly demonstrated the progression of damage caused by grassroots activity.

『土砂溜まり / "Dirt Pool" means Sediment Pond.』

今回清掃したエリアは、下記の画像で示す通り、路面上に土砂が広く浮いている場所でした。勿論、この様な土砂はスリップを招く最大の敵ですから取り除きました、が、今回注目して欲しいのは、縁石沿いの土砂溜まりに生えている草たちです。一見、溜まった土砂に草が生えてきただけの様に見えますが、実は、それほど単純ではなさそうです。

The area we cleaned this time, as shown in the image below, was a place where a large amount of dirt and sediment was floating on the road surface. Of course, this kind of dirt is the biggest enemy of slipping, so we removed it. However, what I want you to pay attention to this time is the grass growing in the dirt pool along the curb. At first glance, it looks like grass has simply grown in the accumulated dirt, but in reality, it seems to be more complicated than that.

『土砂の下では / Below the dirt... 』

今回、最も厚く溜まった土砂を取り除いた場所の清掃結果を見て下さい。アスファルト路面が浸食されて表面がえぐられた様になっているのが判ります。そして、所々に小さな穴が開いて、黒い斑点に見える所も数多くありますが、それらは草の根がアスファルト路面に穴を開けた場所です。つまり、土砂の下では草たちによる路面の浸食・破壊が進む事を示しています。

Please look at the results of cleaning the area where we removed the thickest layer of accumulated dirt. You can see that the asphalt surface has been eroded and the surface has been gouged out. There are also many small holes in places, which appear as black spots; these are places where grass roots have punctured the asphalt surface. In other words, this indicates that erosion and destruction of the road surface by grass is progressing beneath the dirt.

『浸食と破壊 / Erosion and Destruction 』

今回の清掃で、草たちが路面上に溜まった土砂から、どうやってアスファルト路面を破壊しているのかを示す痕跡が出てきました。先ず、第1段階で、生えた草たちの根が舗装路面を溶かし、中には穴を開けてアスファルト路面下の土壌層へ根を伸ばし、第2段階で、繁茂し始めた草たちによってアスワルト路面に “ひび” が入る程に破壊が進み。第3段階では、アスファルトそのものさえ形が無くなるほどに破壊が進むのです。だから、この公園の舗装路面を守る為に、草を刈るのではなく、“草の根” を土砂や土壌と一緒に取り去っているのです。

The results of this cleanup revealed evidence of how grass and soil have been damaging the asphalt surface. First, in the first stage, the roots of the growing grass dissolve the pavement, sometimes creating holes and extending their roots into the soil layer beneath. Second, the thriving grass causes cracks to appear in the asphalt surface, further damaging it. Third, the destruction progresses to the point where even the asphalt itself disappears. Therefore, to protect the paved surface in this park, we don't simply cut the grass; we remove the grass roots along with the soil and soil.

『今回の成果 / Results of This Session 』

今回は、約 5時間半の作業で、約26㎡を清掃し、除去した土砂の量が 40リットルコンテナ 4杯分でした。
This time, the work took approximately 5.5 hours, cleaning about 26 square meters and removing four 40-liter containers worth of soil and soil.

『次回の目標 / Goals for Next Time 』

次回は「ロータリーエリア」の 9日目、次回は、隣接する円形部分の 1/4 の清掃を行ないます。路面上の堆積した土砂や植物たちの状態から判断すると、今回以上に破壊が進んでいるかも知れません。どちらにしても、小石や砂の無い安全で綺麗な路面状態へ、一日でも早く戻してやりたちと考えています。

Next time, on day 9 of the "rotary area," we will clean 1/4 of the adjacent circular section. Judging from the condition of the accumulated soil and vegetation on the road surface, the damage may have progressed even further than it did this time. In any case, we want to restore the road surface to a safe and clean state, free of pebbles and sand, as soon as possible.
